  • Mood: Rant
Hey guys. Been a while.
It happened again. Computer issues basically wiped out everything I had going on & I couldn't stomach the idea of starting over until very recently. I had a couple of "Flash" stories near completion & now they're gone. Stuff like that. In other cases though with other stories I had in the works, I was kind of stuck so I think a reboot & a fresh start might be exactly what they need. But enough about that.

It's been a while since I ranted about anything so I figured I'd voice some concerns about recent trends I've been noticing in art. Two things that kind of bug me, as minute & silly as they may be. Now, I'm not going to even pretend like I'm some sort of expert & that there's a right & wrong way to do things but some ways of doing things are just better than others, dig?

For one, with inflation art. I'm fine if your subject is going to be completely spherical in your drawing. I'm all for it. But one thing I've noticed is that lately, the hands seem to be migrating closer & closer to the head. What's up with that?! What happened to their shoulders & arms? Lord knows this whole genre of art is steeped in fantasy & you have license to screw with the anatomy however you damn well please. But at the same time, I think it helps sells it more if you give things a little more thought & give things a feel of realism. You know?

Secondly, with comic art. I'm no pro, but comics I've seen read horizontally & then vertically. So what's with these layouts with all these numbers & arrows telling me where to look next? Not only are you losing clarity, you're losing space to draw more of the "story" or hell, even just the figures at a bigger scale. We all like a bigger scale, right? Basically, if you set out intending to do a comic, layout that comic, don't just draw haphazardly & let the images fall where they may. Even in those cases, we all seem to have some variation of photoshop or something like it. Why not jog things around into a proper readable order?

Yes, these are the fevered rantings of a tired, bitter old man, but what we do doesn't have to be crap or halfassed. Give things some time & proper thought & we'll all have better things to look at & share.

Ok. Continuing radio silence.
